The Kewanee Fire Department would like to remind citizens that open burning of landscape waste will be coming to an end for the spring/summer season. Weather permitting; Saturday 6/27/20 will be the last possible day to legally burn landscape waste until the fall season, which begins in September. The City ordinance reads, in part:
“… citizens are allowed to burn on Wednesdays and Saturdays during the months of April, May, June, September, October, and November, providing the wind is between 5 and 20 mph and there is no potential for measureable rainfall and/or recent rainfall which would create wet landscape materials that would cause heavy or dense smoke… “
The determination of allowing open burning is made by the Fire Department by 8:00 a.m. on each potential day. Citizens can call City Hall at 309-852-2611, beginning at 8:00 a.m. to hear a recorded message informing them of the Fire Department’s decision.
