Fire Department to Begin Hydrant Testing July 28
The Kewanee Fire Department, in coordination with the City of Kewanee Water Division, will begin testing fire hydrants on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Testing will generally take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays between approximately 9:00 a.m. and noon.
Testing will begin in the general area south and west of the Wethersfield water tower. As testing progresses into new areas, updates and any schedule changes will be communicated promptly to the public.
During testing, residents in or near the work area may temporarily notice discolored or rusty water or changes in water pressure. Residents are encouraged to check their water before doing laundry. If discoloration occurs, allow cold water to run until it becomes clear.
Hydrant testing helps confirm that hydrants are operating properly, identifies maintenance needs, and provides updated pressure and flow information for emergency response. Testing locations and schedules may change due to emergency calls, staffing, weather, or other operational needs.
The City appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation while this important work is completed.
