Cemetery Brush Site Closed

The City of Kewanee would like to inform residents that the temporary storm debris collection site at the cemetery is now closed. This decision was made because most of the debris being disposed of is no longer storm related. We truly appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience in using the cemetery and hospital sites over the past 12 weeks since the tornado. Your support has been invaluable during this challenging time.

We understand that some storm debris remains at the hospital site and on the rights-of-way. The hospital site is expected to be cleaned by the end of the week, after which the City, along with IDOT, will continue to collect storm debris from the rights-of-way.  We expect to complete storm debris collection before the Thanksgiving holiday, barring any unexpected issues.

Residents with tree or brush debris that is not related to the storm are reminded to use the City Brush Collection Program, which requires pre-paid stickers for disposal. Please ensure that brush debris for the Brush Collection Program is piled separately from storm debris to help expedite the collection process. The City will be prioritizing storm debris collection first, and once all storm debris has been collected, regular brush collection will resume.

We recognize that the tornado and subsequent debris cleanup have been challenging for everyone. We sincerely appreciate the community's patience and understanding as we continue to work toward restoring normalcy. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact City Hall at 309-852-2611.

Respectfully,
City Staff
