Lyle/Elm Street Reconstruction Project

Public Notice: Lyle Street/Elm Street Reconstruction Project Commencement and Potential Property Access Impacts

The City of Kewanee will commence construction of the Lyle Street / Elm Street Reconstruction Project on July 10, 2024, at 6:30 AM. This project is part of the Rebuild Illinois Capital Plan, an initiative aimed at upgrading transportation systems, educational facilities, public buildings, environmental systems, and healthcare facilities across the state.

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance road safety in our community, the work will include repaving, curb and gutter replacement, sidewalk installation, and storm sewer repairs. This construction project is expected to last approximately 10 weeks.

Advanced Asphalt has been awarded the contract for this project, and the City of Kewanee looks forward to working with them to ensure the successful completion of these improvements.

Affected Area: (Those directly affected will receive a letter from the City)

  • S. Elm St. from E. Oak St. to Lyle St
  • Lyle St. from S. Elm St to N. Main St

Potential Impacts:

  1. Property Access: Residents in the affected area may experience temporary access restrictions to their driveways between 6:30am to 4:00pm while work is being done. Construction crews will work to minimize disruptions, but there may be periods when access is limited.
  2. Trash/Recycling Collection: While there is no change to the collection schedule, trash and recycling must be placed curbside no later than 6am to ensure collection prior to the start of construction work.
  3. Traffic Delays: Expect delays and detours during the construction period. Traffic control measures will be in place to ensure the safety of both residents and construction workers.
  4. Noise and Dust: Construction activities will generate noise and dust. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we work to improve our roads.

 Access Provisions:

  • Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.
  • Residents are advised to park vehicles on adjacent streets during active construction hours if driveway access is restricted.
  • Construction crews will assist with access to properties as needed.
