The Kewanee Police Department is privileged to have a dedicated police narcotics and tracking canine on its team. Our Belgian Malinois, Maverick, was acquired to bolster our efforts in combatting illegal drug use and trafficking. This highly trained service dog also plays a vital role in apprehending fleeing suspects and locating lost children or citizens. Officer Josh Carpenter serves as K9 Maverick’s handler, and they diligently participate in monthly training sessions to ensure top-notch service. Maverick’s purchase was made possible by the acquisition and awarding of seized drug funds and contributions from the Henry County State Attorney’s Office
